Picnic Day
Each Spring, UC Davis holds its Open House. Picnic Day. A little something for everybody. College students' drunken orgies, a delightful parade, tube socks thrown at people, science experiments, tarantula petting, marching bands, free tomato plants, and weenie-dog races.

A blast from the past: Richie and Luke with Nick and Timothy, last year at the Picnic Day parade. This past Saturday, one year later, we really missed them. :-(

Here is our family last Picnic Day. Zeke was either nonexistent or the size of a crumb, poor fellow. My, the changes in the last year!

This year on Picnic Day morning, Luke was antsy for his friend Jeremiah to come! He did, indeed, arrive; and promptly the boys took themselves for a wagon ride.

Beginning our walk downtown to watch the parade, looking rather clone-ish. We made it downtown without crying babies (yessss), and met up with all of the Sorbellos (yessss), and even got coffee (Richie) and stickybuns (Sam and Bethany--well, Shiloh paid for them) (yessss).

Part of The Picnic Day Gang.

Waiting for the parade to begin. What's wrong with this picture?

Ha ha, very funny.

Last year at the parade, Luke was quite stoic, expressionless, and overwhelmed. This year, he was intensely observant and involved.

Blowing into his imaginary tuba and conducting the band as it plays.

Jeremiah didn't conduct, but he is quite a little musician and watched the band happily, dancing here and there, pausing for the camera with a cute pose.

Babies galore! Siena is the most social little thing and wants so desperately for Zeke to play with her. Clearly, they didn't care much about the parade.

Jolly Siena, at it again. We decided she is a stickybun. Sweet, warm, soft, and spreading happiness wherever she gets toted to.

Don't they look great with two?

Musical Babies.

Musical Babies, the sequel. My, how we aaaall look related...

Some of the sights of the parade: a blue fire engine (something seems weird about that)

big wheels

big bikes

big wagon

big horses

small horses (yes, those are really horses)

big boys

and sleeping babies on their aunties.

A close-up of the Zeke-man on his Auntie Sam, who has quite the maternal touch with the little fellow.

Double-decker! Zeke didn't last very long. Toooo tired!

Luke pooped out, too, and needed stroller escape. Shiloh's shoulders are one of his favorite spots in the world.

Richie left straight from the parade on the back of Poppy's tandem, which was quite the sight to behold; Bethany and the boys went home to take naps. Robyn and Jeremiah eventually got back to the apartment, too, and Jeremiah had quite a time exploring Luke's toys.

Just awoken from his nap, Luke is still dazed; but a boy can never be too tired to ride his decorated tricycle with his froggy boots (ahem, sorry: Workman Boots) on.

Then it was on to Shi and Sam's, where they had a big BBQ with lots of fun friends and good food. Speaking of good food, Zeke ate Siena's jumperoo.

"YUCK!"

Hot dogs, now that's more like it!

Workman for hire.

How can that be comfortable?

Daddytime.

And finally, some photos of Zeke on Picnic Day evening, before our children both expired and we dragged them home to bed. Photos courtesy of Sam (as all of our good photos are).

No buts about it, we had a wonderful day.
