6 Weeks Old Today

New favorite Lukeism: An unbearably cute yawn, with a contorted face, a gasping inhale, and a loud, crackly exhale. (Lest we fail to realize by his equally loud gripes that he is bored and tired.)

Momentous event #1: Yesterday Luke laughed three times!

Momentous event #2: Today, unassisted, Luke rolled over from his tummy to his back! Bethany found him screaming and flailing like a little turtle that got stuck in an awkward upside-down position atop its shell.

And Luke is now talking a lot. (Mostly to his animal friends.) It is hard for us humans to understand what he is saying, though; everything just sounds like a very happy, enthusiastic, "AGOOOOOO."

Sarah entertains her nephew who lounges in an eensy teensy spot of sun.

Luke smiles at another of his dear friends, the musical glowworm.

"Hey, Friend Glowworm, I'm wondering something: Didn't you just play that same song?"

His onesie says it all.

Luke with his daddy, ready to head to the ocean for the very first time!

The beach baby in his grammy's sling, where he stayed happy as a clam for hours.

Luke wasn't the only one happy as a clam for hours...

Although she had to break her strict routine to come to the ocean, Sarah had a great time. As Bethany watched Richie surf, Sarah kept Bethany entertained with jokes.

Ah, finally able to surf again! Babies sure do change things...

An ocean stroll on a beautiful Saturday morning. But where's Luke?

Sarah and Bethany did a jig on their way to the water. Sarah was the only one bold enough to dip her feet in the cold Pacific. (Besides Richie, of course.)

The jig was magic! Back they came from the water with a hot surfer.

"Daddy, is this board too big for me?"

"OK Dad, keep me away from that cold, soaking wetsuit pleeeease!"

The happy family of three.

Saturday's beach trip over, now it's time for church. "But wait! Before we leave, look at my hand! Look how fast it can go! Whee!"

More hand tricks.

In the arms of his poppy.

Luke loves his new toy. Ah, the joys of plastic. Music to a baby's ears.
