The Armstrongs

Long time no write.

This blog has been silent
So you probably wonder:
"Were Bethany and Richie
Engulfed by mad thunder?
Is everything fine?
Are they doing okay?
Is drama abounding?
Is there too much to say?"

Yes.

The last several weeks
Have been full of The Crazies:
Some bad stuff, some good stuff;
We're just emerging from the hazies.
First a wee test telling super-big news:
Bethany's pregnant with Baby Number 2!
Then two weeks later,
Bad queasies did come;
She moped on the couch
Thinking, "What have we done?"
To get help with Luke
We moved in with her folks,
(For healing best happens
with Sarah's great jokes.)
We arrived there to find
Something truly outrageous:
This brand of morning sickness
Was really contagious.
Soon the whole houseful
Of people was ill
Vomiting everywhere,
Unhelped by a pill.

(Or by anything else, for that matter.)

We all writhed in misery,
With only one bright side:
It wasn't morning sickness,
So it wouldn't abide.
But wait! More good happened:
We had to wean Luke,
With no guilty feelings
(Thank heaven for puke.)
To help him stop nursing,
We said, "Nummies went boom."
He understood this, and pitied,
And cried from empathy in his room.
Once he stopped nursing
Off Mama's dry nummies,
He started to sleep better
(still on his tummy)
The boy who awoke
Over ten times each night
Now sleeps from 8
Til the morning gets bright.
(Credit due to his Daddy
and Grammy devoted,
Who rock him, telling stories,
Til he's totally moted.)
So with news of a baby,
Then prompt stomach flu,
And weaning our toddler...
We had a wedding to go to!
Elizabeth Stoffers,
A dear friend for years,
Had a wedding in Carmel,
So we took off with fears:
"Would Bethany cope?
Is she feeling well yet?
Can she stand as a bridesmaid?"
"Maybe..." we bet.
So we ditched our weaned baby
And left him with Grammy,
And left, just the two of us,
Twitterpated in the Camry.
The wedding was gorgeous,
We escaped without puke,
And when the weekend was over
We even missed Luke.
So that, dear blog readers,
Is our life as of late.
Now aren't you happy
To be up-to-date?
Minus Bethany's hunger,
We're all feeling well
(At least it's not nausea--
That was true h*l*)
We're getting excited
About our new baby
And about the June visits
Of people like Haley!
And Liz comes this evening!
And later old roomies!
And Dr. Matt Kwok!
And Grace! Oh, we're loonies.
We hope that you'll pardon
This entry's delay
And hope that the rhyme
Makes its lateness okay.

What would an announcement of pregnancy be without proof? Bethany's 8 weeks along. The little one is due Jan. 15th, but due to the previous emergency c-section Bethany had, this one will be delivered via planned c-section a week early, probably Jan. 8th or 9th. (Let's hear a big hooray for no more eternal labors!) What a week of birthdays! Luke's is the 10th, Richie's is the 11th, Bethany's Dad's is the 16th... not to mention Emily's or Colby's or Sonya's... (Why the popularity? 9 months after Spring Break.) Even this tiny, the baby's heart was beating away! What a miracle!

A couple sweet shots of Luke with his Poppy.

Remember this picture from the Sorbellos' hallway? And Sarah's overall picture? And Shiloh's overall picture? And Gracie's? Mom made these overalls for Sarah, and all the Sorbello kids took their turns. Now it's Luke's turn!

Photo #1: His "smile."

Photo #2: Sporting his new buzz! (Daddy did it.)

Photo #3: Another buzz shot.

Examining a SLUG on Grammy's hand. (Brave Grammy.)

And a farewell grin.

But we need your opinion before we sign off: Which should make it on the Sorbellos' wall of fame? (They're adding grandkids to their Overall Picture collection.) Black-and-white photo 1, 2, or 3? Look back and examine, if you please.

Congrats on baby #2!!!

I'm in the middle of studying for exams and I've checked your blog at least once a day for the last week hoping for a new post to procrastinate to! This post was definitely worth the wait!

I like Overall #1, although I think Luke will probably appreciate having #3 on the wall once he gets older.

Congratulations!! What exciting news! Is morning sickness over...?

I think #1 and #2 have better contrast. #2 is such a classic pose -- like the photographer said, "Put your hand on the tree." But I love his "smile"! So I'm torn...

#1 or #3. #1 is a great picture overall, but #3 might match the photos on the wall better. #2 is fun, but can easily be dated by the ball in the background (which loses some of the fun of the overalls).

AND Congratulations!! hehehe and you were saying you weren't sure about the 2 year gap between babies. So, you might have been pregnant during those conversations and didn't even know it! :) Btw, two years is starting to look like a good gap (this coming from the one that still has 20 weeks to go).

Oh and we were wondering where the Armstrongies were... we kept coming by for a visit, but no one was home. Elizabeth will miss her "Bak Bak" chicken hunting companion.

Good rhyme. I vote for #1 or #2. #1 is funnier, but #2 looks more like the real Luke.

Delays are forgiven
since good news arrived
We're thrilled with the
news of bambino inside.

Glad to know you slumber soundly
without waking up
Yes, all nummies go boom
till the next babe shows up.

Overall pics are wonderfully grand
(yes, all three)
Hard to choose only one
of cute manchild, you see.

Hi Bethany and Richie! I've been reading your blog for quite awhile now, but up 'til now have chickened out on posting a comment. Just had to tell you how happy I am about the baby ... and to hear the yuckies was "just" a bad case of the flu! Bethany, you are a fantastic writer and I have thoroughly enjoyed staying abreast of your many family adventures. I will be praying that God gives you much energy and grace in the weeks and months to come. I would love to see you when we're in Davis/Winters again ... perhaps this summer? Ronan is just a few weeks older than Luke and I would love to get our two go-getters together sometime.

God Bless!
