Ever wonder

how all of a sudden when a baby's born there are no more pictures of the parents? (Or of anyone else besides the baby, for that matter?)

Well here's a picture that defeats the odds.

Day out with Daddy! Mom used her "free time" to indulge in... gasp! A shower. And cooking dinner without baby distractions. Now that is some good, old-fashioned fun.

An attempt to rid the floor of all tasty items such as dust bunnies, spider webs, and hairballs. It backfired when Luke sucked on the end of the vacuum attachment. Yummy.

"Watermelon? For me?"

GOLLY, this watermelon's GOOOOOOD!

Labor Day plans to go to Lake Berryessa were thwarted when Mr. Luke turned veeeery grumpy. So after his nap we stuck around Davis and "adventured" to the UC Davis arboretum. We told him that all the "bad babies" were stuck in Davis for the day. Sure enough, the other baby we saw there at the arboretum was screaming.

Richie and Gracie took turns with the papoose. He loved sucking on Gracie's hair. Riding on someone's back provides a whole new world of naughtiness possibilities.

Caught! (Rite of passage to A New State of Childhood Criminality: unraveling the roll of toilet paper. Doesn't every kid get caught at least once?)

Trying to escape from the scene of the crime. (Notice: Belly's up. Finally crawling "for real." Sometimes. When he's not feeling lazy. Otherwise, he has the four-limb slither down pat.)

Later in the day, he returned to the scene of the previous crime to perform a new crime.

Luke generally adores books--reading them, being read to, feeling the pages, poking people he sees in the pictures. Sometimes when he sits to to read with us, he flails his arms in excitement and anticipation.

When 4 or 5 in the afternoon hits, Luke and Mom have to get creative with how to kill the time. They've already been through all the books and toys and pots and pans 37 times that day.

Mmm! Soapy washcloth!

Yes, toilet paper rite of passage. Sigh. Those were the (ahem) good old days. The next phase is learning to flush the toilet. Such fun! I mean, that's why it's at their level, isn't it? To pull on and make noise and see things swirl around and disappear? Magical!!

And did you manage to hold in your laughter when you caught him with the toilet paper? Love the watermelon- intense face shot! Poppy is very happy with Luke's affinity for fruit and says it will hold him in good stead for future tours of the fruit trees.
